Stella’s in Gulfport

[fusion_dropcap boxed="yes" boxed_radius="0" class="fusion-content-tb-dropcap"]P[/fusion_dropcap]ublished on 06/28/22: Who enjoys a great breakfast or brunch? Our family certainly does, so I’m here to tell you about locally owned Stella’s in Gulfport! Only 13 minutes from downtown St Pete. USA Today has it ranked second on their list of “Best Breakfast in St Pete / Clearwater”.  Remember to follow my @LovingStPete on Facebook and Instagram! 🏝

Before I share about Stella’s, congratulations to @Quackmeupbaby (Ashley) on Instagram and Thespina Kallivrousis on Facebook! You won the $25 gift cards to Stellie Bellies! Thank you for supporting local and entering the giveaway. I’ll be in touch within 48 hours.

Onto Stella’s!

If you’re unfamiliar, this locally owned restaurant is located in Gulfport’s waterfront district, just a short stroll from the beach and docks! Stella’s has a solid 4.5/5 average on Google out of 1464 reviews. Address: 2914 Beach Blvd S, Gulfport.

Barbara Banno opened Stella’s in 2009, though she outgrew the initial space, so moved 2 blocks away to bigger digs a few years ago. Delicious breakfast, brunch and lunch are served from 7am-2pm every day! They also have a liquor menu, plus beer and wine.

While this is a very popular indoor-outdoor diner, there’s fortunately lots of seating, so we only had to wait a few minutes for our table. We’ve been told 45+ minutes at other popular brunch spots downtown, so we had no complaints with our < 10 minute wait on a weekend!

Stella’s on the Cooking Channel

Stella’s isn’t just well known locally, they also made it onto the Cooking Channel series, Beach Bites with Katie Lee. The show featured Stella’s popular fried green tomatoes and “Housemade Corned Beef Hash”. I should note that if you’re headed to Stella’s for the fried green tomatoes, you’ll have some decisions to make. They can be served a few different ways, including as an omelette, benedict and as part of their famous fried green tomato BLT!

If you’re visiting for lunch, another item to check out is Stella’s award winning Ro Ro Reuben, made with corned beef brisket stacked on grilled marble rye bread with kraut, 1000 Island and Swiss Cheese. You can’t go wrong with any of the above! If you’ve been before, what’s your favorite dish? Any Shrimp and Grits connoisseurs out there?

In my research, I noted where some refer to Stella’s as the “Cheers of Gulfport”. I assume the Cheers show, you know, with Sam, Diane, Norm, Woody and crew. 🍻Maybe it’s the community vibe (bar seating inside) or maybe it’s because their drink list is rather extensive for a breakfast and lunch place! Haha. I noted 7 different types of Mimosas, 6 different bloody mary’s, beer, cider, wine, boozy coffee, paloma and screwdrivers. 😮

Other items to note about Stella’s:

The Stella’s name comes from Barbara’s aunt Stella, a nun who loved to cook.

Stella’s is wheelchair accessible

Kids menu is available

Reservations are not required, though recommended on weekends for parties of 6 or more

Accessible by boat with public transient docks next to the Gulfport Casino

Mike Braswell is a Tampa Bay Realtor, serving St Petersburg, Clearwater, all nearby beaches and more. Mike and his 6 year old son started LovingStPete in October of 2020 after a difficult year took its toll on local businesses. After being cooped up for portions of 2020 (lockdown) they decided to get out and explore, helping spread the good word about the local area he loves so much. Often even doing gift card giveaways to support local. LovingStPete is now followed by over 27 thousand people on social media! The majority of posts are informative on fun parks, activities, day trips, great restaurants, and in general provide a comprehensive tour of the area! His 6 year old son generally helps him gather the info, providing his wife some 'child-free' time in the process! A win-win, with his son being exposed to many great events and activities in the process.

Soon after receiving his bachelors in Management Information Systems, Mike developed and then operated a vacation rental advertising business for 10+ years as CEO/Owner. The business was eventually acquired by HomeAway/VRBO.

When not spending time with his beautiful wife and energetic son, Mike enjoys boating and is also an avid tennis player. An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
