Cafe Cibo in St. Petersburg

Published on 11/08/22: Who knows family friendly Cafe Cibo and/or enjoys great Italian food? “Locally sourced and crafted with love” and likely falls into my #HiddenGem bucket. The location isn’t downtown, nor waterfront, and as such, the 800+ Google reviews are focused on the food and service. An excellent 4.5/5 average, thanks to executive chef and Golden Spork winner, Frank Schittino.

Frank Schittino at Cafe Cibo

Frank has “been serving both quality interpretations of classic dishes and daring new ventures into the uncharted territories of food. […] From Sicily to your table.” Cafe Cibo opened in 1999 and is located on 4th street N, about 4 miles north of downtown. We simply know it because we live nearby, though still drove by it far too many times before noticing!

Kids Menu at Cafe Cibo!

My family was especially grateful for their kid’s menu, with items such as spaghetti & meatballs and chicken parmesan for $6.95. Plus, word searches, coloring, and table jokes. Queue Joe Pesci “I’m funny how? I mean funny, like I’m a clown?” No, I haven’t watched Goodfellas with Colt. Home Alone is the best Pesci he’s seen so far.

St Pete Foodies Weighs In

Kevin Godbee, co-chief of the St Pete Foodies says: “Cafe Cibo makes old school Italian food just like your grandmother used to make. I grew up in New Jersey in the 1970s-early 80s. It was old school northeast (Cue “The Sopranos” theme music.)  I also grew up with an Italian grandmother. It sounds like a cliché, but my maternal grandparents literally came over on the boat from Sicily. When I go to Cafe Cibo, it brings me back to that time.”

Has anyone tried Cafe Cibo’s pre-meal bread and sauce? It’s good stuff. I found a recent podcast called #ForkingAroundTown and they raved about the bread and sauce served before the meal. It is indeed delicious!

Our Meal at Cafe Cibo

We very much enjoyed our chicken piccata (I like my capers and lemon), ravioli, and pizza. Plus the Limoncello and Tiramisu for dessert. This is a locally owned, neighborhood Italian joint that we look forward to visiting again! Support your local families and businesses who are working hard.
