Gulfport Florida Clam Bayou Nature Park

Published on 05/21/22: Happy Saturday! Before I dive into details on Clam Bayou Nature Preserve, keep today’s Floridania Fest on your radar. This is an an event for “all things vintage Florida”, with art, souvenirs, post cards and more!

Floridania at Gulfport Casino

The Floridania Fest ties in with my Gulfport series because it’s hosted at the Gulfport Casino. The event starts at 10am, with the last admission at 3:30pm. $5 entry free, though it’s free for 14 and under. Collectors from all over Florida will be selling vintage Florida merchandise…and buying.

Clam Bayou in Gulfport

Clam Bayou on Boca Ciega Bay! While you’re in Gulfport, I encourage you to visit this 170 acre nature preserve. Especially if you have kids. Plenty of walking trails, kayak and canoe launch, cool areas to paddle, pavilions, green space, an estuary, plus restrooms onsite. All this, just a couple minutes from downtown Gulfport!
The estuary areas provide a habitat for species such as fiddler crabs, clams, birds and dolphin. As you wander the trails, you’ll find observation decks which are great for spotting the wildlife. Not sure about your children/grandkids, but whenever Colt spots anything resembling an observation deck, his walk turns into a jog!🏃‍♂️

Blueways Trail System

When I say there are cool areas to paddle, Clam Bayou is part of the Blueways Trail System in Florida. As a whole, Blueways consists of 1550+ miles of marked water trails for paddlers! A self-guided tour with stops you’ll find along the routes. 🛶
The kayak/canoe launch is a good one too, as it’s essentially a floating slip that will keep you from flipping over while boarding. Not that any of us have ever done that, especially while maneuvering kids.😂
Keep in mind there are two areas of Clam Bayou to visit. One at the end of 34th Ave S (80% of the bayou) and the rest is accessible at the end of Miriam St. S.
Clam Bayou is also known as Osgood Point.
