Clearwater Marine Aquarium
Clearwater Marine Aquarium in Clearwater Florida
Published on 01/21/21: Apparently, this first picture illustrates why it’s “okay” if our adventures leave mom at home to jam out to 80’s tunes and read. This was her today. 🙃 Ha. But I digress. Onto the Clearwater Marine Aquarium.
Home to Winter the Dolphin!
Clearwater Marine Aquarium is home to Winter, the now famous rescued dolphin with a prosthetic tail. Her story was even made into a very popular movie, Dolphin Tale! Colt loves the movie and always enjoys seeing Winter in person. We specifically chose today however because this weekend is “ReptilePalooza” at the aquarium, with the upper level full of interesting creatures.
Additionally, we wanted to check out their recent upgrades! We were very surprised at how far they took the advancements. Many additional areas, much larger aquarium tanks, large restaurant/diner, and much more!
Pricing
At the time of this writing, the price was around $29/adult and $25 for Colt at the time of posting. A bit more than I recall, however the aquarium is a non-profit, with proceeds going to help their cause in preserving our environment. So all good.
One more post coming with additional details and video to give you a better idea of what Clearwater Marine Aquarium has to offer! We are lucky to have Winter and crew just 30-40 minutes away from St Pete.
Know one of the best parts about adventures in our area? You’ll most likely be near one of the numerous beaches, allowing for some time in the sand, live music, and tropical drink. In this case, Clearwater Beach is just a couple minutes from the aquarium, thus our pitstop today.

Discovering the Clearwater Marine Aquarium: A Sanctuary for Marine Life and Conservation
If you’re ever in the Clearwater, Florida area, a visit to the Clearwater Marine Aquarium (CMA) should be at the top of your list. This unique facility is not your typical aquarium; it’s a rescue and rehabilitation center dedicated to marine life and conservation, offering visitors an inspiring and educational experience. Here’s why the Clearwater Marine Aquarium stands out and why it’s worth a visit.
A Mission Beyond Entertainment
Unlike traditional aquariums focused solely on exhibits, CMA’s primary mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release injured marine animals. The aquarium serves as a haven for dolphins, sea turtles, otters, and other marine species that have been affected by injury, illness, or stranding. Their work is driven by a commitment to animal welfare and environmental stewardship, making every visit an opportunity to learn about marine conservation efforts in action.
Meet Winter and Her Friends
One of the main attractions at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is Winter the Dolphin, who gained worldwide fame for her inspirational story. Winter was found in 2005 entangled in a crab trap line, which led to the amputation of her tail. Her remarkable recovery, aided by a prosthetic tail, was chronicled in the film “Dolphin Tale,” bringing attention to both her story and the aquarium’s mission. Visitors can see Winter, now an ambassador for dolphin conservation, and learn about her journey and the cutting-edge prosthetic technology that helped her thrive.
But Winter isn’t alone. CMA is home to several other animal residents, each with their own stories of rescue and recovery. From Hope, a young dolphin who was rescued alongside Winter, to a variety of sea turtles that have been rehabilitated and released, the aquarium provides a glimpse into the lives of these remarkable creatures.
Interactive and Educational Experiences
CMA is dedicated to educating visitors about marine life and conservation through interactive exhibits and educational programs. The aquarium offers behind-the-scenes tours, animal encounters, and interactive learning stations. These experiences allow guests to engage directly with the animals and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges marine wildlife face.
Children and adults alike can participate in activities that illustrate the importance of conservation efforts. From learning how to properly dispose of waste to understanding the impacts of pollution on marine ecosystems, CMA provides practical knowledge that visitors can apply in their everyday lives.
Conservation Efforts and Community Impact
Beyond its role as a rescue and rehabilitation center, CMA is deeply involved in broader conservation efforts. The aquarium collaborates with various organizations to conduct research, promote sustainable practices, and advocate for policies that protect marine environments. Their work extends beyond the walls of the facility, aiming to inspire and mobilize the public to take action in preserving our oceans.
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium also plays a significant role in the local community. By hosting events, offering educational programs for schools, and engaging with local organizations, CMA fosters a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility.
A Visit with a Purpose
Visiting the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is more than just a day out; it’s an opportunity to support a meaningful cause. Every ticket purchased helps fund the aquarium’s rescue and rehabilitation efforts, as well as its educational and conservation programs. It’s a chance to see firsthand the difference that dedicated individuals and organizations can make in the lives of marine animals.
Whether you’re a marine life enthusiast, a family looking for an educational outing, or simply someone interested in supporting conservation efforts, CMA offers a rewarding experience. Your visit not only provides a deeper appreciation for marine life but also contributes to the ongoing mission of rescuing, rehabilitating, and protecting the ocean’s most vulnerable inhabitants.
In conclusion, the Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of compassion and dedication. So next time you find yourself in Clearwater, make sure to pay a visit to this extraordinary facility and be part of a story that makes waves for good.
