Floridian Social Club in St Petersburg – Live Music and Date Night

Published on 06/6/23: Live music and more at the Floridian Social Club! Anyone know this historic building with Roaring Twenties vibe in downtown St Pete? Kevin Chadwick is the St Pete native responsible for knocking this restoration out of the park. What started as Alexander National Bank in 1924, is now an incredible entertainment venue, perfect for a night out with friends or date night. One of our favorite spots for live music, offering an incredible sound and light system. It also holds an excellent 4.7/5 star rating on Google out of hundreds of reviews. Floridian Social Club – Building History

The Floridian Social is located at 687 Central Ave N, occupying an 8,600 sqft space, originally built as one of the largest banks in St Petersburg…even able to print currency. However, after the crash in 1929, I read the building remained mostly vacant, only occupied occasionally by office tenants. Then in 1950 it became the State Theatre, showing movie films for 30+ years. From there it became a live music venue under the same name, though closed in 2018. That’s around the time when Kevin Chadwick stepped in!

Kevin purchased the building and renovated over several years, transforming it, while also preserving the history. I read the flooring is even laid out in a pattern to replicate the original flooring! When it reopened in 2021, the name changed to the Floridian Social Club (aka Floridian Social).

What to Expect at the Floridian Social Club

They’ve done a great job of making the venue feel a bit sophisticated, while not being pretentious. As they write: “No Dress Code. We want our guests to have a place where they can be as comfortable or dressed up as they prefer.” I’ve seen people in flip flops, business attire, and everything in between.

The Floridian Social offers live entertainment from Thursday through Sunday, with a mission of “connecting the Tampa Bay community with local artists and nationally touring musicians”. While you typically need to purchase tickets, they’re often only $5-$20/each. Buying ahead of time online also saves you money, versus buying day of show. This is reasonable imo for a date night, when considering the cost of doing most anything these days. Of course you may have a drink or three on your tab by the end of the night, but still. For concerts at other venues, I’ve spent $50+ on TicketMaster, driven across the Bay, and had no better experience than at Floridian Social Club with local friends. Once you venture inside, I believe you’ll also feel the same.

Aerial and Fire Performances

As an added bonus on Friday and Saturday evenings, the Floridian Social often kicks off with aerial and/or fire performances! This might also include cabaret, burlesque or contortionists, just depends on the night. Check my stories for a glimpse at the opening of our evening!

If you really want to live it up, reserve a Banquette (6-10 people) or VIP Loft (10-15 people). These are booked through the Floridian’s website with a reservation fee and drink minimum.

Few things to keep in mind:

Food: The Floridian does not serve food and outside food isn’t allowed.

Ages: Everyone in your party must be 21 or older.

Capacity: Only 780, not 1000’s, so events often sell out.

Parking: There’s parking on Central and 1st Avenues near the venue. Make sure you have the Parkmobile App (no valet parking).

Venue Rental: You can rent the venue for parties, corporate events, weddings, you name it.
