St Pete Grand Prix IndyCar Race in Downtown St Petersburg | Video

Published on 03/02/23 (scroll down for video): Don’t forget about the Grand Prix in downtown St Pete tomorrow thru Sunday! (March 3-5)

It’s always amazing to me that they can setup a 1.8 mile race track for 170mph+ cars in the middle of downtown. Hard to beat a waterfront racetrack, city skyline backdrop, fast cars, lots of food, cocktails, beer, plus acres of space to roam as you follow the track around!

There are races every day. Main race of 100 laps is on Sunday at 12:30pm (airing on NBC). Check the schedule on their website for additional details.

Local Driver Facts

Belleair resident Colton Herta won the Grand Prix in 2021, came in 4th last season and is racing again this season. I know who my Colton will be cheering for on Saturday!

Nikita Johnson is from Gulfport and is the youngest driver of the weekend at 14 years old! (in the USF2000 series)

Friday from 12:30-1:30pm outside the Mahaffey Theater

There’s a fence and barricades for your protection, however otherwise you’re pretty much right there in the action as you walk around. A starting point in my opinion is the Mahaffey Theater, which had a large patio overlooking the track in years past.
