Finding Breakfast and Brunch Places Without a Long Wait

You may recall that we’ve been on a quest to find great breakfast places a few miles outside downtown. The goal being to avoid the wait we sometimes find on Saturday and Sunday mornings, plus we simply like trying new places. And don’t get me wrong, we still love breakfast/brunch along Beach Drive and at the Noble Crusts of the world, it’s just that we like having options.

So far we posted about Munch’s and Kissin’ Cousins. Both were recommended by followers, both received great 4.5+ reviews online, both were delicious. Well, we recently visited another family owned restaurant that we can confidently add to the list, Trips Diner! (4.5/5 with 2K+ Google Reviews)

Trip’s describes itself as a “not-too-fancy neighborhood restaurant that offers a variety of simply, delicious food.” Easy as that. They serve breakfast all day, plus offer salads, sandwiches, meatloaf, pasta, chicken and more.

Indoor and Outdoor Dining

They have both indoor and outdoor dining, so Colt and I opted to sit outside and enjoy the fresh morning air. Colt ordered a chocolate chip ‘hubcake’, which is a pancake the size of a hubcap! As a big eater with a sweet tooth, this was right up his alley in every way. I ordered the shrimp and grits, which also did not disappoint. We’re talking cheese grits, blackened shrimp, cheddar, bacon, scallions, all topped with one egg. We’ll return!

Gordon Stevenson is the owner/founder of Trip’s, opening the original St. Pete location in 2012. The name has a special meaning to the Stevenson family as “Trip’s” is a nod to his triplets, Libby, Will & John! Since opening the original location in St. Pete, Gordon has opened locations in both Seminole and Tampa! As we understand, the same great menu can be found across all 3 locations.
