[fusion_dropcap boxed="yes" boxed_radius="0" class="fusion-content-tb-dropcap"]P[/fusion_dropcap]ublished on 9/13/22: Giveaway time! Colt and I took a ride in the St Pete DeLorean this weekend, back to the 80’s and 90’s, and it was awesome! I’m talking about the largest retro video game store in the USA, and it’s just 15 minutes from downtown St Pete! The 700+ Google reviewers were correct with the stellar 4.7/5 rating of this affordable journey in time. The name of this totally radical place? Unlimited Video Games Superstore and Arcade, founded and owned by two St. Pete-Clearwater natives! You’ll know you’re in the right place when you see the LovingStPete sticker on the counter.

Four lucky followers will each win a $25 gift card *and* a 4 pack of arcade visits. Two followers on Instagram and two on Facebook, you can enter on both platforms.

Retro Video Store and Arcade

Upon entering, Colt and I quickly realized this throwback store and arcade was certainly most righteous for a write-up. I wouldn’t have been shocked if the cast from The Breakfast Club was working the register. Take my money! Retro is “in” these days, but it was especially cool seeing it all come together in one place. Customers wearing Def Leopard t-shirts, the arcade area dark with The Lost Boys vibes (no vampires, just the vibe) tons of titles and consoles from yesteryear, the list goes on.

Over 40,000 SKUs!

They have over 40,000 SKUs – be it games, consoles, accessories, collectibles, comic books and tons of other merchandise. Some items date back to the 70’s and are typically very hard to find. The arcade is up to 32 games so far…and growing. Best part is that you can play all day for $5! The price increases to $8 in October, but still, that’s an 80’s price. Colt blows through $25 at most arcades in 20 minutes. Here he was able to play tons of racing games and much more, over and over. No coins, no tokens and no arguments over $. He simply pressed “start” or “continue” once the previous game ended and he was off to the races again!

Store Owners: Gregg Lonkey and Patrick Kearsley

I had to dig into it this story more. Gregg Lonkey and Patrick Kearsley are the hard working owners of this most excellent creation. I spoke with Gregg personally, confirming this is his full-time job and that “it has taken an incredible amount of work” to make their vision become reality. As my parents always said, “Nothing is easy, son.” This always stands true, even for a fun store like Unlimited Video Games. Gregg is super friendly and has poured his life into the store with Patrick. Help me show these two St Pete natives some love!

Convert Old Video Game Consoles to Better Picture

I also learned that they have the hardware and accessories which allow old consoles to connect to your modern TV for a better picture. For instance, with Atari’s, they remove the RF Modulator and do AV mods, giving ability to connect to your TV with a much-improved picture! Love it. I tried explaining to Colt that Minecraft can’t touch Space Invaders or Missile Command. Just wait until our next trip back to the avocado farm when I grab my old console for Unlimited to trick out. And if I can’t find it, I’ll simply buy one from Gregg and Patrick! They of course have them for sale.

They Host Retro Events!

Make sure to follow their Facebook page and/or website for events. Yes, they have events which bring like-minded retro enthusiasts together. Call me crazy, but I see relationships forming at these events! Ha. People who dig retro, dig other people who dig retro. Am I right?

I should mention, these two gents actually started and operated a couple of other stores, named M&M Video Games (ie on 54th Ave and on Central Ave). However, they’ve now combined those into this one storefront going forward. So 6901 US Hwy 19 N in Pinellas Park is where you want to go!

News Channel 8 will be onsite today covering the store/arcade and News Channel 10 will arrive on Friday. You heard it here first though from Mike and Colt. Haha.

Colt and I stumbled across Unlimited Video Games Superstore this weekend, enroute to a great pizza place that I’ll be writing up soon (ranked #1 by St Pete Foodies). Some of you may know Unlimited’s location as the original H&R Trains location, another 4.5+ rated activity that I’ll cover in more detail later. I already touched on it a bit last year. 🚂

Mike Braswell is a Tampa Bay Realtor, serving St Petersburg, Clearwater, all nearby beaches and more. Mike and his 6 year old son started LovingStPete in October of 2020 after a difficult year took its toll on local businesses. After being cooped up for portions of 2020 (lockdown) they decided to get out and explore, helping spread the good word about the local area he loves so much. Often even doing gift card giveaways to support local. LovingStPete is now followed by over 27 thousand people on social media! The majority of posts are informative on fun parks, activities, day trips, great restaurants, and in general provide a comprehensive tour of the area! His 6 year old son generally helps him gather the info, providing his wife some 'child-free' time in the process! A win-win, with his son being exposed to many great events and activities in the process.

Soon after receiving his bachelors in Management Information Systems, Mike developed and then operated a vacation rental advertising business for 10+ years as CEO/Owner. The business was eventually acquired by HomeAway/VRBO.

When not spending time with his beautiful wife and energetic son, Mike enjoys boating and is also an avid tennis player. An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
