Candy Kitchen in Maderia Beach and Redington Shores

Published on 11/23/21: It seems that ‘time’ is often a good litmus test of a business. When they stand the test of time (70+ years in this case), that’s often a positive sign. Hence our thought behind visiting the The Candy Kitchen in Madeira Beach and Redington Shores! Plus, several followers recommended. (Scroll down for our Mullet’s Fish Camp & Market gift card winners!)

Family-Owned Candy Kitchen

Candy Kitchen’s Mad Beach location opened in 1950 and has remained a family-owned business ever since. “From the lips on the door, to the ever-growing Pez collection, this store has been fun for the whole family for generations. […] We pride ourselves in making homemade ice cream, fudge, Italian ice and selling candies from your childhood.”

The Madeira Beach location is a mile north of John’s Pass and is certainly unique. This isn’t the Hershey Factory, but rather a small shop, roughly the size of my college dorm room. Evidently during high season, the line often runs out the door at night as young and old wait patiently to satisfy their sweet tooth.

Pay attention to the walls when you enter as visitors have signed them for many years. While we didn’t go into the restroom, we hear it’s covered floor to ceiling with candy boxes from many years ago.

Redington Shores Location

The Redington Shores location is much larger and opened in 2010. While you have to visit the Madeira Beach location for the nostalgia, the Redington location was even more Colt’s speed. You’ll find similar items at both stores, though certainly even more of it in Redington. We read that there are close to 450 types of candies, many nostalgic, on display at this location! Plus they have many toys as well, a number of them from my childhood. We hope you’ll check out both locations & support this family owned business!

Mike Braswell is a Tampa Bay Realtor, serving St Petersburg, Clearwater, all nearby beaches and more. Mike started LovingStPete in October of 2020 after a difficult year took its toll on local businesses. After being cooped up for portions of 2020 (lockdown) Mike and his son decided to get out and explore, helping spread the good word about the local area he loves so much. Often even doing gift card giveaways to support local. LovingStPete is now followed by over 48 thousand people on social media! The majority of posts are informative on fun parks, activities, day trips, great restaurants, and in general provide a comprehensive tour of the area!

Soon after receiving his bachelors in Management Information Systems, Mike developed and then operated a vacation rental advertising business for 10+ years as CEO/Owner. The business was eventually acquired by VRBO. Mike has earned the trust of many large clients over the years. Such as NFL, Wynn Resorts, Blue Cross Blue Shield, VISA, Genuine Parts Company (NAPA Auto Parts), AT&T, and other Fortune 500 companies.

When not spending time with his beautiful wife and energetic son, Mike enjoys boating and is also an avid tennis player. An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
