Clay Center of St Petersburg

Published on 01/12/24: The nearly 10k square foot Clay Center of St. Petersburg! More details about our visit and the pottery community below.

First, their “Art Walk” event is tomorrow (Saturday) evening from 5pm-9pm! Fortunately, after this weather clears out. This is a FREE event where you’ll watch Raku firing demonstrations, tour the ceramic artwork gallery, 33 studios, and chat with the artists. The fire aspect is what especially caught my son’s attention.🔥 We plan to attend!

Lyn Van Voorst Owns the Clay Center

After retiring as a guidance counselor for Pinellas County Schools, Lyn Van Voorst has been living out her post-retirement dream. Lyn fell in love w/ clay long ago, though took it to the next level in 2004 by opening the Clay Center near downtown St Pete!
Address: 2010 1st Ave S, St. Pete
Google Reviews: 4.5/5 with 170+ reviews

St Pete Clay Center Mission:

“To form a community where potters come to learn, grow, enjoy, share, and have an enjoyable experience and grow as an artist.”
If you enjoy pottery or are interested in learning, this is the community for you! It’s clear when you walk in that this is 100% a *community*. Everyone shares the common interest and supports each other. There’s even a pup mascot onsite – smart dog, petted by many during our short visit. 🐾

Pottery Wheels and More

Colt and I were on a different adventure when we spotted The Clay Center. Posting it today because of the Art Walk event tomorrow. Colt’s top 3 requests for Christmas included a pottery wheel, so I quickly pulled over when we saw the huge building. Glad we did, as Lyn was onsite and gave us the full tour! Plus we met Dining With Chef Josh – a regular in the pottery community!
“We are a full service pottery studio w/ private and semi-private studios. We offer classes, workshops, private parties, and team building events. Don’t need your own studio? We have open studio workspaces for a small monthly fee.”

Mike Braswell is a Tampa Bay Realtor, serving St Petersburg, Clearwater, all nearby beaches and more. Mike started LovingStPete in October of 2020 after a difficult year took its toll on local businesses. After being cooped up for portions of 2020 (lockdown) Mike and his son decided to get out and explore, helping spread the good word about the local area he loves so much. Often even doing gift card giveaways to support local. LovingStPete is now followed by over 48 thousand people on social media! The majority of posts are informative on fun parks, activities, day trips, great restaurants, and in general provide a comprehensive tour of the area!

Soon after receiving his bachelors in Management Information Systems, Mike developed and then operated a vacation rental advertising business for 10+ years as CEO/Owner. The business was eventually acquired by VRBO. Mike has earned the trust of many large clients over the years. Such as NFL, Wynn Resorts, Blue Cross Blue Shield, VISA, Genuine Parts Company (NAPA Auto Parts), AT&T, and other Fortune 500 companies.

When not spending time with his beautiful wife and energetic son, Mike enjoys boating and is also an avid tennis player. An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
