Fantasy Island – Boating on Tampa Side

Published on 07/27/22: Meet the incredible Labradoodle, Biscuit! She wanted nothing but to swim and play with the boys yesterday. Friendly, patient and playful, she made our day! Thank you, Jacob and Whitney for sharing Biscuit with us, helping Colt and his buddy Avery have “the best day”. Check out the video.

As you know, here at Loving St Pete I suggest activities, nature parks, playgrounds, great locally owned businesses and also day trips within a 2 hour drive. On an “activity” note, a great perk of living in the Tampa Bay Area is the wide range of boating opportunities. Whether you own your boat or rent, there are so many places to visit!

Boating Near Tampa

While our family generally boats to Bunces, Egmont, Shell or Passage Key, another boating world exists on the Tampa side. Here you can boat near the city, essentially following Riverwalk to great destinations such as Armature Works. The Tampa side also offers sandbars and islands of their own, such as Pine Key (aka Beer Can Island) and Fantasy Island.

Yesterday we chose Fantasy Island. This was a father-son trip with a buddy who suggested the outing with his son. Needless to say, when we returned, Amy had a few questions about “Fantasy Island”. Rest assured, completely kid friendly and made for a fun day! A great place to throw the football, frisbee and of course play with Biscuit!

Pine Key – aka Beer Can Island

While we haven’t visited Beer Can Island yet (few miles south of Fantasy Island), I’m told it’s not as family friendly. Others may be able to chime in here with some additional feedback. On our list to visit one day, for an adults only trip to test the waters.

It’s great living in the Tampa Bay Area and having so many boating options! Thanks for following along!

Fantasy Island: 27.8690° N, 82.4256° W

Pine Key/Beer Can Island: 27.8077° N, 82.4448° W
