Grew Up Fishing, But Now I Often Buy My Seafood

As a Florida native, I grew up lobstering and fishing. An elderly snowbird even enlisted me at 14 years old to be his “charter captain”. We made a great team, as he couldn’t drive the boat, and I couldn’t drive the truck. He even let me keep his boat during the summers to use while he was in Ohio!
Unfortunately, I don’t fish as much these days, so it’s been great having Gulf Coast Seafood nearby. They receive new seafood daily because they wholesale in so much volume. A win for us retail customers!

Family Owned Gulf Coast Seafood

This is a family business, started in 1978 when John & Carol Merkle dreamed of selling seafood. “With the help of our parents we started a small retail store in St. Pete.” While they sold their original retail store to begin wholesaling, they’ve come full circle with this retail store in Gulfport!
Your purchases are wrapped in watertight bags that prevent leaks and also freezer burn if you decide to freeze. Ice is provided as needed.
You’ll find all types of seafood, beef, plus wine, beer, free recipe cards, spices and other supplies you’ll need for cooking!

Wholesale and Retail Seafood

Gulf Coast Seafood’s customer base includes “a wide variety of high-profile customers, including Fine Restaurants, Theme Parks, Grocery Stores, and Full Line Distributors.”
While I posted them in 2021 and rarely repeat (other than parks and holiday favorites), glad to be giving Gulf Coast Seafood another shout out, as LSP has 40K more followers on social media now. Enjoyed our recent shopping trip just as much as all our prior visits!

An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
