Gulfport Florida Activity Ideas for Families and Children

Published on 04/30/22: “Uh dad, little help please. You’re not taking a picture, are you?”. Continuing my Gulfport series, let’s discuss Gulfport activity ideas, specifically those that families and children might enjoy in this slice of ‘Old Florida’!

Many Activity Options

It’s clear that Gulfport has put significant thought into their community! Practically adjacent to the restaurants and shops on Beach Blvd/Shore Blvd, you’ll find many activity options. A huge, covered playground, skate park, beach area, beach volleyball courts, basketball, trail with exercise equipment, bocce ball, plenty of green space (for ie frisbee), plus beachside pavilions for gatherings! Restrooms onsite. Then a few blocks away you’ll find tennis courts, baseball field, library & Clam Bayou nature park. I’m doing a separate post on Clam Bayou, so much to explore.

Gulfport Recreation Center

Oh, and most of the features above are all near the Gulfport Recreation Center. This rec center “offers quality activities, classes, and programs for all ages”. Bottomline, Gulfport has MANY options for families and children to pass a morning, afternoon or all day!

More Details on Gulfport Activities:

Large Playground: fenced + covered. Props to Gulfport for thinking ahead with the cover!

Six Beach Volleyball Courts: These are primarily first-come, first-serve except for league play provided by the City.

Large main pavilion & smaller beach pavilions: Reservations take priority to walk ups. Call 727-893-1068 to reserve “for events, music and dancing”. Maybe a LovingStPete beachside dance-a-thon for charity? Haha.

Beach: 6.8 acres w/ FREE parking just steps from the sand (large lot). Plus a Mobi-mat that provides beach access to wheelchairs & strollers.

Bocce Ball: Call # on the sign and they’ll provide equipment.

Skate Park: no one was skating when we visited, so Colt improvised with hot wheel car races down the ramp, plus the timeless ‘car vs ball race’😂 over and over. Forget a sitter, I need to build a ramp in our backyard.

Congrats to @ Kzubekk on Instagram & Mel Donovan on Facebook for winning the Let It Be Ice Cream gift cards! Hope you enjoy your old fashioned ice cream experience!
