Keel & Curley Winery, Keel Farms in Plant City

Published on 03/27/23: Hope everyone had a great weekend! As you plan future weekend activities, keep Keel & Curley Winery on your radar. While friends recommended it to us long ago as a fun ‘family outing’, we only recently visited. I can now vouch firsthand, it’s a winner for all ages and worth the drive 45+- minute drive for something different! 2814 Google Reviews with a 4.6/5 average.

Keel Farms is Child and Pet Friendly

Anyone familiar with locally owned Keel & Curley? The scenic property is child and pet friendly, with much to see, eat, hear, and drink! Colt had a great time on the playground and “driving” the old tractor. We all had a great time visiting with their goats, pigs, and chickens. Plus, there’s a small pond as a backdrop that adds to the farm ambience!

Live Music at Keel & Curley

While the above is great, in addition, we did it all with excellent live music in the background. On this day, the tunes came courtesy of singer-songwriter Kirstie Kraus and Krystal King! (@kirstiekraus & @krystalkingmusic) For Keel & Curley’s live music, think acoustic guitarists, not Motley Crew. After dark, they do occasionally have a DJ, so keep that in mind for weekends! Simply follow their account to stay up to date with upcoming events.

From Keel Farms’ Website:

“…we’re family friendly. We produce honest, healthy, sustainable, ground to glass products served in a comfortable, family environment. We encourage you to bring your kids and let them roam the farm, pet the animals, and play in our playground. […] Keel Farms is pet friendly. We love to have your leashed, well behaved pups on our patio. We simply ask that you please keep your dog on a short leash and under your control at all times. No dogs sitting on our tables, chairs, or similar surfaces.”

Keel Farms History

All began in 1981, when local landscaper Joe Keel started a 10 acre nursery in Plant City, calling it “Keel Farms”. In time, Joe transitioned to mainly cultivating blueberry plants.

Then in 2003 he used his end of crop blueberries to make wine in his family’s kitchen. These first 10 gallons of blueberry wine resulted in the birth of Keel & Curley Winery!

Fast forward to 2013, Keel Farms Agrarian Ale + Cider was established, producing locally inspired craft beers and ciders.

In 2018, Clay and Carmen Keel took over the company from Clay’s dad, with a goal of making it even more family-friendly with the principles of “quality, sustainability, and community”.

Starting in 2021, Keel & Curley Winery struck distribution agreements statewide in a number of grocery stores!

Today, the farm is 35 acres and includes grass fed cattle, pasture-raised chickens, a peach orchard, blueberries and other produce.

Mike Braswell is a Tampa Bay Realtor, serving St Petersburg, Clearwater, all nearby beaches and more. Mike started LovingStPete in October of 2020 after a difficult year took its toll on local businesses. After being cooped up for portions of 2020 (lockdown) Mike and his son decided to get out and explore, helping spread the good word about the local area he loves so much. Often even doing gift card giveaways to support local. LovingStPete is now followed by over 48 thousand people on social media! The majority of posts are informative on fun parks, activities, day trips, great restaurants, and in general provide a comprehensive tour of the area!

Soon after receiving his bachelors in Management Information Systems, Mike developed and then operated a vacation rental advertising business for 10+ years as CEO/Owner. The business was eventually acquired by VRBO. Mike has earned the trust of many large clients over the years. Such as NFL, Wynn Resorts, Blue Cross Blue Shield, VISA, Genuine Parts Company (NAPA Auto Parts), AT&T, and other Fortune 500 companies.

When not spending time with his beautiful wife and energetic son, Mike enjoys boating and is also an avid tennis player. An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
