Magic Kingdom is a Day Trip From St. Petersburg

Magic Kingdom Less Than 2 Hours from St. Pete!

Published on 11/01/20: Wrapping up our thoughts on a Disney Day/Weekend Trip, here’s our final stop last weekend. Magic Kingdom! While there were noticeably less crowds, similar to Epcot, the lines for a number of rides still required the same wait as pre-Covid. This is simply because most rides themselves are not operating at full capacity for social distancing purposes. Masks are required unless eating or drinking (while sitting) and staff definitely keeps an eye out for mask malfunctions.

We are simply happy that Disney has figured out a way to open safely for those who wish to venture to the Parks. Keep in mind that Disney caps the number of people at all parks so you must make a reservation in advance. Also note that Fast Passes currently don’t work, which was really our only ‘bummer’, otherwise we definitely look forward to returning!

At only 90 minutes away, those of us in the Tampa Bay area are fortunate to be able to visit frequently! Just think, if you use your annual pass 4 days per month, you’re talking less than $20/day! Thanks to Walt Disney World for opening your doors and keeping safety in mind! See you again soon.

A Magical Day Trip from St. Petersburg to Magic Kingdom: An Adventure Awaits!

If you’re in St. Petersburg, Florida, and dreaming of a day filled with fairy tales, thrilling rides, and enchanting experiences, a trip to Magic Kingdom in Orlando is just a short drive away. Here’s how to make the most of your magical day trip to one of the most iconic theme parks in the world!

The Journey Begins: From St. Petersburg to Orlando

Starting your day early is key to making the most of your Magic Kingdom adventure. The drive from St. Petersburg to Orlando takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic. To avoid rush hour, aim to leave around 7:00 AM. Make sure your car is stocked with snacks, drinks, and a good playlist to keep the energy high and excitement building.

Arrival and Parking: Navigating the Magic Kingdom

Once you arrive at Walt Disney World Resort, follow the signs to Magic Kingdom. You’ll be directed to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC) where you’ll park your car. From here, take the monorail or ferryboat to the Magic Kingdom entrance. The monorail provides a breathtaking view of the park and the iconic Cinderella Castle as you approach, making it a magical start to your day.

Entering the Park: A World of Wonder

Arriving early means you’ll have a head start on the crowds. Head straight to Main Street, U.S.A., where you can take in the nostalgic charm of the quaint shops and delightful street performers. Capture the perfect photo in front of Cinderella Castle—this iconic landmark is a must-see and a great backdrop for family photos.

Morning Magic: Rides and Attractions

Start your adventure with some of the park’s most popular rides. Head to Fantasyland to experience the enchanting “Peter Pan’s Flight” or the whimsical “It’s a Small World.” For thrill-seekers, “Space Mountain” and “Big Thunder Mountain Railroad” in Frontierland offer high-speed excitement.

Consider using the Disney Genie+ system to reserve access to popular attractions and minimize wait times. This handy tool allows you to schedule times for various rides and shows, helping you maximize your fun.

Lunchtime Delights: Dining in the Park

By midday, you’ll be ready for a delicious meal. Magic Kingdom offers a variety of dining options. For a quick bite, try “Casey’s Corner” for classic hot dogs and fries. If you’re in the mood for a sit-down meal, “Be Our Guest Restaurant” in Fantasyland offers an immersive dining experience inspired by Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast.” Be sure to make a reservation in advance!

Afternoon Fun: Parades and More

After lunch, enjoy some of the park’s charming entertainment options. Catch the afternoon parade featuring beloved Disney characters and vibrant floats. Take a leisurely stroll through Liberty Square and Adventureland, exploring attractions like “The Haunted Mansion” and “Pirates of the Caribbean.”

Evening Enchantment: The Magic of Nightfall

As the sun begins to set, find a good spot to watch the evening fireworks show, “Happily Ever After.” This spectacular display of lights, music, and fireworks is the perfect way to end your magical day. Arrive early to secure a prime viewing location in front of Cinderella Castle.

The Return Journey: Wrapping Up the Day

After the fireworks, it’s time to head back to St. Petersburg. Be prepared for traffic as many guests will be leaving the park at the same time. Consider making a stop at a nearby restaurant for a late dinner or grabbing a quick snack to enjoy on the road. Reflect on the day’s adventures and start planning your next visit!

Tips for a Smooth Trip:

  1. Buy Tickets in Advance: Save time by purchasing your tickets online before you go.
  2. Wear Comfortable Shoes: You’ll be walking a lot, so comfortable footwear is a must.
  3. Stay Hydrated and Sun-Safe: Florida sun can be intense, so drink plenty of water and apply sunscreen throughout the day.
  4. Download the My Disney Experience App: This app is invaluable for checking wait times, making dining reservations, and managing Genie+ selections.

A day trip from St. Petersburg to Magic Kingdom is an unforgettable experience filled with joy and wonder. With a bit of planning and preparation, you’ll create magical memories that will last a lifetime. Enjoy your adventure and may your day be as enchanting as the park itself!
