The Oakdale Christmas Display in St Pete

Onto the Oakdale Christmas House, located just south of downtown St Pete, near Tropical Shores! (scroll down for a few of the accolades, address and hours). If you’re unfamiliar, for 46 years, Ted Kresge and his wife have setup a huge Christmas display on their property. It takes around 3 months to arrange the 500K lights, HO scale model railroad, many inflatables, water features, huge towers of lights, and everything else. Their investment in the display grows almost every year, and 2022 is no different. Ted says there’s been “major additions and upgrades” this year. Here’s my video from last year to give you an idea, as we haven’t made it by quite yet this year.

The Kresge’s 1/2 acre property has drawn national attention from HGTV, Fox, NBC, HSN, People Magazine and many other media outlets. A couple quick stats for the Oakdale Christmas House: The tallest tree in their display is 70 feet tall and they have around 700 moving/animated characters.

Cost for you to visit the Oakdale Christmas House? Completely free! However, as you watch their electric meters spin (end of my video), with the kids laughing/playing all around, you may feel compelled to donate into their donation bucket near the exit. We appreciate the time and money the Kresge’s spend to bring smiles to the children, such as Colt.

Cost: Free (donations encouraged)

Address: 2719 Oakdale Street South, St. Pete

Google Reviews: 739 with a 4.6/5 average

Dates: Nov 25 to Jan 3rd

Hours: 6-10pm

Time to Budget: We spent around 20-25 minutes walking the property. An easy weeknight activity.

Few of their many accolades of the Oakdale Christmas House

  • Only display to make HGTV’s #1 & NBC’s Today show ‘top 3’ in the same year.
  • Featured first in HGTV’s ‘All Out Christmas’
  • NBC’s Today Show: Top 3 Christmas Light Displays in the USA (out of thousands of entrants)
  • HSN: Among the best Christmas displays in the USA
  • St. Petersburg Times: The Oakdale light display looks like a holiday theme park but it’s (a) home.

Often even doing gift card giveaways to support local. LovingStPete is now followed by over 48 thousand people on social media! The majority of posts are informative on fun parks, activities, day trips, great restaurants, and in general provide a comprehensive tour of the area!

Soon after receiving his bachelors in Management Information Systems, Mike developed and then operated a vacation rental advertising business for 10+ years as CEO/Owner. An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
