Colonial Corner Hoagies – Philly Cheesesteak St Pete

Published on 05/09/22: Before I get back to Gulfport and some larger adventures like Vertical Ventures and TreeUmph, let’s talk about some of the best Philly Cheese Steaks in the Tampa Bay Area. My research kept pointing me to a couple places. The first of which is Colonial Corner Hoagie Shop!

Philly Cheesesteak St Pete

This is a family-owned business, direct from Philly. Owned by Joann Casciato, this was “a mom & pop business, though is now a mom & son business” (RIP to her husband 7 years ago). This was per her son Vince, who was hard at work on the grill. Mom wasn’t working on Saturday, though can often be found in the shop. In fact, she answered the phone when I called today!

The Casciatos brought their business here from Philadelphia 40+ years ago. They have a long history in the Philly restaurant business, with Joann’s grandparents being the founders of the LaSpada Itallian Deli chain!

The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book

Colt and I noticed an article on their wall from ‘The Great Philly Cheesesteak Book’, which read: “Colonial is located only a few miles from the Phillies training camp, so if it wasn’t good, it wouldn’t have lasted 5 minutes”. The article continues “This little corner hoagie/steak shop makes some of the best cheesesteaks outside Greater Philly, according to Philadelphia magazine.”

There was a constant flow of customers during our visit and many “Hi Vince” conversations. It became obvious that quite a few regulars frequent. We very much enjoyed our Philly Cheese!
