Smokin’ J’s Barbeque:

Colt and I listened to followers and checked out Smokin’ J’s Real Texas BBQ in Gulfport! We can certainly see why 600+ Google Reviewers gave it a great 4.6/5 star rating! It’s also rated as the #1 restaurant in Gulfport by TripAdvisor users. I mean the owner, John Riesebeck, brought his competition level BBQ straight from Dallas TX to South Pasadena/Gulfport. He’s heavily touted as the ‘real deal’ when it comes to Texas style BBQ.

Currently operating as counter service only. Can either take to-go or eat picnic table style.

History of Owner:

Beyond the delicious BBQ, another reason for this post is respect of John, who appears to always have ‘community’ on his mind. For instance, since 2016, John has responded to six hurricanes in surrounding cities/states by driving a U-Haul truck of supplies to the impact zone. A recent ABC News article mentioned that it took roughly $30K to fill one U-Haul truck with supplies! John says the local community pitched in with supplies & finances to ensure he departed Gulfport w/ full trucks. In the same article, John says “My whole philosophy is communities helping communities, businesses helping businesses. That’s why we do it…the hugs, the tears, the smiles”.

We all know the pandemic has been difficult on the restaurant industry. John mentioned in the article, “We’ve been fortunate enough to be able to survive and get the bills paid, but it’s been a challenge”.

With all of the above in mind, we encourage you to visit Smokin’ J’s for delicious BBQ! As of the date of this posting, they’re closed Mon & Tues, though open the other 5 days of the week – 12pm-8pm. 5145 Gulfport Blvd S.
