St Pete-Clearwater Airport PIE – Voted Best Airport in 2022

Published on 05/27/23: This week our St Pete Clearwater Airport ranked above 330+ other airports to claim TSA’s “2022 Airport of the Year” award! This is out of ALL small to medium size airports.

Alright, so who knows PIE airport? For our family, it’s an extremely easy airport to navigate. We often check PIE first, in hopes a flight lines up with our plans. Looks like others agree, with TSA just naming it “2022 Airport of the Year” of all small to medium-sized airports.

In 2022, the airport set its all-time record with 2.45 million passengers, plus offers 60+ non-stop destinations thru Allegiant, Sun Country Airlines, and Swoop Airlines.

The St Pete-Clearwater Airport also consistently ranks in the top ten of airports for most affordable domestic airfare. Ie In Q3 of ‘22, they had THE lowest average airfare of the top 100 busiest U.S. airports.

I especially enjoy how PIE embraces our local community and businesses. For instance, you’ll find rotating seasonal beers on tap at 3 Daughters Brewing, located at Gates 2-6. You’ll also find 3D beers on Allegiant flights.

When the Grand Prix of St Petersburg was in town, PIE had one of the race cars on display to greet those heading into our beautiful area.

They also collaborate with Honor Flight of West Central Florida, a local organization who transport Veterans, free of charge, to Washington DC to visit memorials!

Additionally, the airport also runs blood drives (most recently they included $20 gift cards), contracts local artists for murals, and much more.

An interesting fact about Mike is that he grew up on an avocado farm with over 15 varieties, some of which you can find in our local Publix/Winn Dixie as his dad still farms the same farm at 87 years old!
