Treasure Island Kite Festival in TI Florida

Published on 01/12/23 (scroll down for video):

Almost the weekend! I have a date night suggestion on deck (great spot), but first I wanted to call out the 26th annual Treasure Island Kite Festival happening this weekend! While it’s forecast to be quite cold both days (“Florida cold”), we’re supposed to have blue skies and a breeze, which is what really counts at a kite festival! I notice the breeze is forecast to be higher on Saturday, which might be the deciding factor for when we visit. Scroll down for key bullet points.

Treasure Island Kite Festival Video from 2021

This video is one I put together from our visit 2 years ago. While it was a much different time (some restrictions & very limited kites), it will give you a general idea of the area and what to expect. Simply add in MANY more kites on a typical year. Not just kites, but kites shaped like zebras, whales, scuba divers, zebras, snoopy, sea horses and much more. Venturing onto the beach in January simply feels like Florida! Add in all the kites and it becomes a weekend that Colt and I always hope our schedule allows. You can hear Colt’s excitement in the video after he let out all his string, eventually winding it all back in, the Pinellas County equivalent of fighting a Snook at Weedon Island.

A Few Key Points of the Kite Festival

Location: Treasure Island Beach, behind the Thunderbird Beach Resort (10700 Gulf Blvd)

Dates: Jan 14 and 15 (they encourage recreational flyers to spend the Monday holiday flying on the beach as well!

Time: 10am-5pm, though they say night flying may happen if weather cooperates.

Kites for Sale: Yes! Windworks of Madeira Beach will have kites of all types for sale. Colt and I purchased a $14 kite on our visit that worked great!

Raffle: Stop by the Windworks Tent for their silent auction and hourly raffles.

Lessons: Quad Line and Dual Line lessons are available on the beach, learn how to fly stunt kites for free!

Pets: Not allowed on TI Beach, though allowed on the Beach Trail (sidewalk on edge of beach)

Parking: City owned metered parking lots can be found here: http://www.MyTreasureIsland.com/parking

Other Activities: Kite Demos, “Hot Tricks Competition” and “Kite Ballet to Music”

Treasure Island Beach is Beautiful!

If you’re unfamiliar with the beach at Treasure Island, it’s beautiful! A very wide beach, allowing many to join and yet still not feel too crowded. There are plenty of food and drink options nearby as well. Post sponsored by the LovingStPete Team at HB Realty. We give back up to $10K at closing when you use our team to buy or sell a property.
